Brando turns down SEC Network, joins Fox Sports

A few months ago the rumor was that Tim Brando would be joining SEC Network. Brando is based out of Louisiana after all, and the ruor had it that the Tim Brando Shwo would end up being placed on SEC Network, much like Paul Finebaum is. It seems a different fate was in store though for Brando and company. Fox Sports announced today that Tim Brando has been hired to broadcast college football and basketball on Fox Sport and Fox Sports 1. With the announcement that he will appear on main FOX, it means Brando has been made the #2 play-by-play man behind Gus Johnson. It means we will see Brando focusing on Big 12 and Pac-12 games in the fall and Big 12, Pac-12, and Big East games in the winter/spring. No other announcements regarding FOX's broadcast teams this upcoming season were announced, but FOX did say brando will broadcast a Game the first weekend for them. Here's the full announcement from FOX.

FOX SPORTS ADDS NOTED BROADCASTER TIM BRANDO
TO IMPRESSIVE COLLEGE SPORTS ROSTER
Veteran Broadcaster to Call College Football and College Basketball
on FOX and FOX Sports 1
Brando Makes FOX Sports Debut First Week of College Football Season
New York –Tim Brando, a veteran broadcaster with decades of experience calling over 25 sports, is the latest addition to FOX Sports’ impressive and rapidly growing roster of college sports personalities and contributors. FOX Sports Executive Producer John Entz announced today that Brando joins FOX Sports’ coverage of college football and college basketball on FOX and FOX Sports 1 beginning this season. Brando’s broadcast partner, as well as the full FOX Sports college football announce teams, will be released at a later date.

“Tim is one of the most recognized voices in college sports,” Entz said. “Adding someone with his experience and credibility to our college football and basketball coverage is a fantastic addition for FOX Sports.”

Brando (@TimBrando) comes to FOX Sports with an impressive resume that includes his daily show,The Tim Brando Show, on Sirius XM Radio. Winner of the prestigious Lindsey Nelson Award in 2014, a national honor given annually to a college football broadcaster, Brando is one of the most authoritative voices in the world of big-time college athletics. He has called more than 25 different sports during his prolific career, including college football and basketball, and he has been one of the most recognizable voices of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament since 1996. Brando also served as host of CBS Sports’College Football Today and At The Half studio shows, did play-by-play for CBS Sports’ NFL coverage for several years and has done play-by-play for Raycom’s coverage of ACC basketball and hosted Raycom’s Emmy Award-winning showFootball Saturdays.

Brando joins Bruce Feldman andStewart Mandel as other recent additions to FOX Sports’ expanding college sports coverage. Feldman was announced in April as a FOX Sports senior college football reporter & columnist, and Mandel earlier this month as a senior columnist focusing on college football and basketball.

FOX Sports’ 2014 college football schedule includes exciting action from the Big 12, Conference USA and Pac-12, as well as the Big Ten and Pac-12 conference championship games. Overall this season, over 100 college football games air across FOX Sports’ national and local broadcast and cable platforms, encompassing the FOX broadcast network, FOX Sports 1, FOX Sports Networks (FSN), FOX College Sports, FOX Deportes and FOX Sports GO. Coverage this season kicks off with four straight days of action, beginning Thursday, August 28 (10:00 PM ET), as Rutgers takes the field for the first time as a member of the Big Ten, facing Washington State at CenturyLink Field in Seattle on FOX Sports 1.

As for why Tim Brando is joining Fox and not SEC Network, this is his response from today on Facebook. "As many of you know, Brett McMurphy of ESPN broke a story a few weeks ago about a potential agreement between the SEC Network and yours truly. While I value their interest and wish them well, Football was never part of their short term vision for my future. I want to thank them and the SEC for their interest and wish them nothing but the best."

Wholesale changes for NFL on CBS Broadcasts in 2014

If there is one thing that is certain in this world, it's that there will always be change. People just haven't expected much change from CBS, both in regular TV and in terms of sports, after they've dominated the market for nearly the last 10 years. This year will be quite different. After making massive schedule changes for most of their shows this fall, CBS will be making masive broadcast assignment changes.

Two broadcast teams- Jim Nantz and Phil Simms as well as Ian Eagle and Dan Fouts, remain the same. Nantz and Simms will be joined though by Tracy Wolfson for everyone of their broadcasts this season. Eagle and Fouts meanwhile have been promoted to the #2 broadcast team. The rest of the changes occur mostly because Marv Albert has retired from football broadcasts, though that isn't the case in one instance. Greg Gumbel goes from the #2 broadcast team to the #3 broadcast team where he will be joined by Trent Green. Trent Green replaces Dan Dierdorf and joins the network from Westwood One.

For the rest of the changes, it is as follows.

* Kevin Harlan replaces Marv Albert on the #4 broadcast team and will be paired with Rich Gannon.

*Spero Dedes moves up to the #5 broadcast team and will be paired with Solomon Wilcotts.

*Andrew Catalon moves up from CBS Sports Networks #1 college football broadcast team to the #6 broadcast booth. He will be in a 3-man booth with Steve Beuerlein and Steve Tasker.

*Jenny Dell and Evan Washburn will be used as sideline reporters throughout the season.

*Reserve broadcasters include Brian Anderson and Tom McCarthy doing play-by-play and Adam Archuleta and Chris Simms doing analysis.

Here's your full release from CBS Sports.
