Monday's News and Notes by Rudy Martzke (Sept 26, 2022 edition)

Hustle Award: Broadcaster Matt Millen called Central Michigan/Penn State on Saturday for BTN and Sunday called Saints/Panthers for Fox Sports. He still remains one of the best analysts in the business. Millen received a heart transplant in 2018.

Best debut: Broadcaster Patrick Netherton called Northwestern/Lamar on Saturday. Netherton was sensational on the call. The enthusiasm and joy to hear his call on the game was a pleasure. Netherton is a rising star.

Best line: Fox Sports Tim Brando, on Washington State QB Cameron Ward, “You are watching a star being born on National television, Cameron Ward!  Don’t tell me the don’t play great football in the Southland Conference. This is a play that you see on Sundays by the best in the business”. Cameron Ward previously played for 2 years at UIW, a Southland Conference school.

Sunday's News and Notes by Rudy Martzke (Sept 25, 2022 edition)

Best line: SEC Network's Tom Hart, after Vanderbilt punter Matt Hayball's second tackle of the game forced an Alabama fumble, “Pat McAfee's somewhere saying, 'Hang it in the Louvre.'"

Best exchange: SEC Network’s Tom Hart said to SEC Network partner Jordan Rodgers after an archive clip showed Rodgers taking a big hit as a Vanderbilt QB at Alabama, “You went to the sideline and you went right to the chaplain. Did you ask for last rites?"

Worst Timing Award: ACC Network’s Mike Monaco told viewers during the Florida State/Boston College game that Florida State's punter Alex Mastromano had 100 straight punts without a touchback. His next punt went for a touchback.

ESPN's Sean McDonough was noticeably irritated for the viewers tuning into Wake Forest/Clemson that had “live” cut in’s of Aaron Judge’s HR chase telling viewers,
“In the game that people were tuning in to watch, Wake Forest has taken the lead.”  No “live” look in’s during OT.

Dreaded Glitch: CBS Sports had an audio-related difficultly where the feed from Ian Eagle and Charles Davis was lost. CBS had to use the studio for Bengal/Jets with 10 minutes left in the 4th quarter. At the onset, viewers hear James Brown say, "Are we calling it?"

Top Information: CBS Sports’ Ian Eagle told viewers that the Bengals were 1st defending AFC champion to start season 0-2 since 1999 (Broncos).

Incredible stat: During the Bills/Dolphins game CBS Sports' Kevin Harlan told viewers with 4:04 left in the first half that the Bills were in their first 3rd and 10 or more the entire season.

Top production: CBS Sports caught Bills Offensive Coordinator Ken Dorsey reacting in frustration, slamming his headset, hat, and tablet into the desk, and finally crumpling the papers around him.

Best Timing Award: Fox Sports Dan Hellie, during Panthers/Saints noted, “The sun has come out in Charlotte, and it’s shining on the Panthers’ defense." Saints QB Jameis Winston was then sacked on third down.

Best stat: Fox Sports Kevin Burkhardt told viewers the Buccaneers were only 1 of 2 teams not to have a scored a TD in the 1st Half of a game this season.

CBS Sports Trent Green was all over the Dolphins back up in the end zone. Green insisted the Dolphins needed to take a safety. Instead the Dolphins punted, and now the infamous buttocks kick is with viewers forever.
