2014 NFL on FOX broadcast teams finalized

Last week we reported on the 6 teams we had heard Fox would use during the 2014 NFL season. However our good friends at Awful Announcing were able to debut the sideline reporters as well as news on the seventh broadcast team today.

Rather than make you wait, here are the 6 broadcast teams Fox will use.

No, you are not seeing things. Fox will rotate analysts for the #6 broadcast team. Not only that, but there will be no solid #7 broadcast team.

Gus Johnson, Justin Kutcher, Sam Rosen, and UFC veteran Mike Goldberg have all been slated by Fox to act as play-by-play broadcasters for the #7 team this season. A rotation of analysts will also be used. Analysts mentioned for the #7 broadcast team include Charles Davis and Brendon Ayanbadjeo. Molly McGrath will travel with Johnson & Davis when they are given NFL assignments, but Peter Schrager will be the usual #7 sideline reporter.

 The preseason kicks off in full swing this Thursday. As was the case last year, I will post the full NFL schedule below once they release it in their weekly press release. However I will only show the LIVE broadcasts in the upper section. Should announcing teams prove to be different than what I currently have listed, I will update them after I have verified the change. Here's your Preseason Week 1 Schedule.

Carter Blackburn returns to CBS Sports, takes over Andrew Catalon's CFB responsibilities

When ESPN released their CFB assignments, many people wondered why Carter Blackburn, whom has called the last two seasons of Friday Night Football, was MIA from the announcing lists. There as some speculation that he must have left ESPN and went to a different network. Today that confirmation came. Carter Blackburn will be the lead play-by-play announcer for college football and be one of the play-by-play announcers for college basketball on CBS Sports Network. Additionally Blackburn will also act as the #2 play-by-play man for the SEC on CBS and will be the voice of the MWC Championship on CBS. Essentially Blackburn is taking over Andrew Catalon's spot after Catalon was promoted to NFL broadcasts.

Additional CBS Sports broadcast teams aren't yet known. When they release that info, we will be sure to publish it here. In the meantime, here's the release announcing Blackburn's return to CBS.

"Carter Blackburn is returning to CBS Sports as the lead play-by-play announcer for CBS Sports Network, it was announced today by David Berson, President, CBS Sports.  Blackburn will be the Network’s lead voice on its weekly college football and college basketball games, and other prominent events. 

Blackburn also will call college football for CBS Sports, including SEC games on the weeks the Network features two SEC ON CBS match-ups.  In addition, Blackburn will announce college basketball games, as well as other select events for CBS Sports. 

Blackburn previously worked for CBS Sports Network (then CBS College Sports Network) from 2003-09 calling college football, college basketball, college baseball and other events for the Network, as well as the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship for CBS Sports (2008-09). 

“Carter is a dynamic rising star in our business and we’re thrilled to have him back in the CBS Sports family,” said Berson.  “He is a versatile broadcaster with a wealth of experience calling college athletics, and we’re excited to have him contribute across CBS Sports.”

Previously, Blackburn worked for ESPN calling college football, college basketball, college lacrosse and other events.  Blackburn worked for ISP Sports and Fox Sports South in Winston-Salem, N.C., from 2001-03, handling a variety of radio and television duties.

Blackburn graduated from Syracuse University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science degree in public communication and political science.  During his time at Syracuse he called football, basketball and lacrosse on WAER-FM and the Syracuse University Radio Network.  Blackburn began his broadcasting career while in high school in Kerrville, Texas at KERV-AM calling high school football. "

ESPN Finalizes 2014 College Football Broadcast teams

We've known a few of ESPN's plans for CFB this season since they announced previously that Chris Fowler would move into the Saturday Night Football Booth and Brent Musburger would work on SEC Network. What we didn't know is whom the other broadcast teams would be and which teams would have sideline reporters. All that info was released yesterday. 

For the first time in recent memory, ESPN isn't assigning any of their ABC, ESPN, or ESPN2 broadcasters to a specific network. Instead any of the announce teams can appear in any timeslot on ABC, ESPN, or ESPN2, with a few exceptions. It should also be noted that Longhorn Networks broadcast team will be pulled from one of these teams.

Cara Capuano is moving from SECtv to ESPNU, and ESPNews will have 2 full-time regular broadcast teams. Another change is that ESPN has designated one team specifically for Tuesday or Wednesday night MACtion, and Carter Blackburn is not listed on the ESPN Roster this season. Instead Dave Flemming will become the voice of Friday Night Football.

Compared to last season, there is more than an 80% broadcast team change this year. Here's the assignments that have been announced.
