ESPN increases College Baseball Playoff coverage- every game will be televised

Upon seeing the success of Red Zone, MLB Strike Out, Goal Line, Buzzer Beater, and other rotating sporting events that go from game-to-game, ESPN has decided to do the same for the College World Series Playoffs. Every game will now be shown on ESPN3, and select games will continue to be shown on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, and possibly Longhorn Network (LHN did air all but the championship game last year from the Austin Region first round). Additionally ESPN will create a Bases Loaded Platform that will be available on ESPN3 and inbetween games on ESPN2 and ESPNU. Here's the ESPN announcement.

Bases Loaded Platform to Provide Day & Night Whip-Around Coverage
ESPN will continue to increase its commitment to college baseball by covering all 16 sites of the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship from Friday, May 31 to Monday, June 3. It will mark the first time every first-round game of the event – up to 7 games from each of the 16 locations for a total of a possible 112 matchups over four days – will be available to fans live on a national platform. ESPN provided coverage of six sites in 2012, four in 2011 and two the previous six years.

ESPN will also launch Bases Loaded, a four-day platform to update fans throughout the action. Similar to ESPN’s Goal Line and Buzzer Beater networks, Bases Loaded will provide unlimited live cut-ins and highlights from numerous games, plus up-to-the-minute commentary from ESPN analysts and experts each day of the Regionals. Bases Loaded will be available Friday, May 31, and Saturday, June 1, from 2 p.m. ET to midnight; Sunday, June 2, from 2 p.m. to 1 a.m.; and Monday, June 3, from 6 p.m. to midnight. ESPN3 will carry the network in its entirety while ESPNU and ESPN2 will simulcast at select times, including between games and rain delays when time permits. Every game will also be available on WatchESPN.

ESPN offered a network record 272 regular-season and conference championship games – 160 exclusively – across ESPNU, ESPN3, ESPN2 and ESPN in the 2013 campaign. This season’s lineup marks an increase of 50 exclusive games over the 110 regular-season and conference championship matchups on ESPN platforms in 2012.

In addition to the expanded Regionals schedule, ESPN will continue to cover every Super Regional site (up to 24 games from eight sites) and all possible 17 games of the College World Series.

Selection Show
The 2013 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship field of 64 teams will be announced on May 27 at Noon on ESPNU.

NEW YORK, N.Y. – April 29, 2013 – For the second consecutive year, and only the second time in the 96-year history of the NHL, every Stanley Cup Playoff game will be televised nationally. NBC Sports Group will provide unprecedented access to the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, which begin tomorrow, in April, May and June, televising as many as 105 playoff games and possibly more than 260 hours of programming. Games will be presented on NBC, NBC Sports Network, CNBC (in primetime), and NHL Network. In addition, more Stanley Cup Playoff games will be live streamed than ever before.

NBC Sports Regional Networks will surround the Blackhawks (Comcast SportsNet Chicago), Bruins (Comcast SportsNet New England), Capitals (Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic), and Sharks (Comcast SportsNet California) with in-depth live-event and/or news coverage. NBCSports.com will provide comprehensive online coverage of the playoffs with online-only video, contributions from Comcast SportsNet insiders, and constant news updates from ProHockeyTalk.

“After a regular season which has seen significant viewership growth across both NBC and NBC Sports Network, we are proud to once again employ all of our assets – broadcast, cable, regional and digital – to surround the Stanley Cup Playoffs for hockey fans,” said Mark Lazarus, Chairman, NBC Sports Group. “During the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs, NBC Sports Group will provide fans and viewers with more live-event, second screen and news coverage than any previous postseason in NHL history.”

NBC SPORTS LIVE EXTRA COVERAGE

NBC Sports Live Extra — the NBC Sports Group’s live streaming product for desktops, mobile devices, and tablets — will stream all Stanley Cup Playoff games that air on NBC, NBC Sports Network, and CNBC, including the Stanley Cup Final for the first time. The vast majority of games will be live streamed via “TV Everywhere,” the media industry’s effort to make quality content available to authenticated customers both in and out of the home and on multiple platforms.

For desktops, NBC Sports Live Extra can be accessed at NBCSports.com/liveextra. The NBC Sports Live Extra app for mobile devices and tablets is available at the App Store for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, and on select Android handset and tablet devices within Google Play.
Games airing on:
  • NBC will live stream to PCs, mobile devices and tablets through NBC Sports Live Extra;
  • NBC Sports Network will live stream to PCs, mobile devices and tablets through NBC Sports Live Extra, and to the digital platforms of participating cable, satellite, and telco services, via “TV Everywhere,” which is available on an authenticated basis to subscribers of participating MVPDs;
  • CNBC will live stream exclusively through NBC Sports Live Extra via “TV Everywhere.”

CONFERENCE QUARTERFINALS

Every first-round playoff game will be televised on a national platform.

In order to televise as many as four games on a given day/night, the NBC Sports Group will utilize NBC, NBC Sports Network, CNBC and the NHL Network to carry Conference Quarterfinal games.
NBC Sports Network will be the primary home of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, offering coverage of one or two games virtually every night of the first round. NBC will present exclusive afternoon coverage during the weekend of May 4-5.

CNBC and NHL Network will also provide live coverage in primetime. Games airing on NBC Sports Network, CNBC and the NHL Network will be subject to local blackouts in the first round.
See below for a complete Conference Quarterfinal schedule.

CONFERENCE SEMIFINALS

NBC Sports Group’s Stanley Cup Playoff exclusivity originates with the Conference Semifinal round. Beginning in the second round and continuing through the Stanley Cup Final, all games will air exclusively on NBC, NBC Sports Network, or CNBC.

NBC Sports Network will serve as the primary home for Conference Semifinal coverage, offering one or two games virtually every night of the second round. When necessary, CNBC will provide live coverage in primetime, although more infrequently than in the first round. NBC will present exclusive afternoon coverage during the weekend of May 18-19, plus a primetime game on Saturday, May 25.

CONFERENCE FINALS

NBC and the NBC Sports Network will team to provide exclusive coverage of the Conference Finals. NBC will broadcast Saturday games on June 1 and June 8. The remaining games from both the Eastern and Western Conference Finals will be televised exclusively on NBC Sports Network.

STANLEY CUP FINAL

For the eighth consecutive year, NBC and NBC Sports Network (formerly VERSUS) will provide exclusive coverage of the Stanley Cup Final. NBC will broadcast Game 1, Game 4, and Games 5-7 (if necessary), with NBC Sports Network televising Games 2-3. Emmy Award-winning play-by-play commentator Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick, analyst Eddie Olczyk and ‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst Pierre McGuire will call the Stanley Cup Final.

STUDIO COVERAGE

Robust pre-game, post-game and intermission studio programming throughout the 2013 NHL postseason will originate from NBC Sports Group’s new, state-of-the-art International Broadcast Center located in Stamford, Conn., except during the Stanley Cup Final, when the studio will be live from the game sites.

On most weeknights, fans can expect NHL studio programming for games airing on both NBC Sports Network and CNBC, sometimes simultaneously. NHL Live will usually begin one hour prior to game time, with post-game coverage airing immediately after the final game of the night.

On most days, the NHL Live team of Liam McHugh, Mike Milbury, and Keith Jones will man the studio for games airing on NBC and NBC Sports Network, with Bill Patrick and Jeremy Roenick working the studio for CNBC games. Host Russ Thaler and analysts Mike Keenan and Anson Carter form an additional team of studio commentators during the NHL playoffs.

ENCORES

Beginning on Wednesday, May 1 and continuing nearly every morning throughout the playoffs, NBC Sports Network will air encore presentations of the previous night’s NHL Live post-game show, as well as a cut-down version of the most exciting game of the night.

NHL Live post-game encores will air daily at 6 a.m. ET and 8:30 a.m. ET, with the game encore airing from 6:30-8:30 a.m. ET.

COMPREHENSIVE LOCAL COVERAGE

Through the NBC Sports Regional Networks, comprehensive coverage of the Stanley Cup Playoffs will be provided daily via Comcast SportsNet, available in more than 50 million U.S. households and the hometown network for the Chicago Blackhawks, San Jose Sharks, and Washington Capitals. In-depth coverage for those teams advancing to the postseason includes exclusive regional coverage of all first-round games with pre- and post-game shows.

For teams that advance past the first round, NBC Sports Regional Networks will deliver extensive pre- and post-game coverage as well as breaking news and analysis throughout each team’s playoff run.

Comcast SportsNet New England will air special pre- and post-game coverage for all Boston Bruins games throughout the playoffs, as well as in-depth coverage and analysis of the team’s playoff run throughout all CSNNE programming and online at CSNNE.com.

NBCSPORTS.COM

In addition to its live stream coverage via NBC Sports Live Extra, NBCSports.com’s ProHockeyTalk, will anchor NBC Sports’ online and mobile coverage of the NHL playoffs.
ProHockeyTalk provides unique, informative and entertaining news, commentary and analysis — updated around the clock — on all the stories surrounding the NHL playoffs. Other NBCSports.com features will include:
  • PHT Extra, a multiple-times-a-week online-only video segment.
  • Online-only videos featuring NBC Sports and NBC Sports Network hockey commentators previewing upcoming playoff games and wrapping-up all of the NHL action that day.
  • Content provided by Comcast SportsNet NHL insiders.
  • An NHL Playoffs Channel Finder tool that will help fans locate the times and stations for every NHL playoff broadcast.

2013 MLB Week 5 TV and National Radio Schedule

Can you believe that Week 5 of the baseball season is already here? It seems like it was just last week baseball began for the season, not a month ago. With Monday arriving in mere minutes or hours though, it is time to roll out another week of baseball on TV.

Awful Announcing has compiled a list of all the possible announcers for each teams TV and radio broadcast. Why mess with perfection. If you wish to learn the possible announcers for each network before a game airs, please visit the MLB TV Primer: Local Announcers provided by our friends at Awful Announcing.

Beginning this week, I will add the announcers that broadcasted the TV broadcasts the day after they air. ESPN, MLB Network, FOX, and TBS announcers will still be listed before game time. Since I will be listing multiple announcers for each game, I am giving each station their own broadcast line. However only the MLB Network produced broadcasts will have their announcers listed.

I will post the television providers in the following format.
1) National Broadcast (ESPN, ESPN2, TBS, WGN America, FOX, MLB Network)- MLB Network alternate games will appear in yellow
2) Home Team Station Broadcast
3) Road Team Station Broadcast

National Women's Soccer League coming to Fox Sports Media Groups this summer

The news was made about a week ago, but since I'm in a part of the country where we don't here much about the NWSL, I just picked up on it today. The National Women's Soccer League and Fox Sports Media Groups have entered into a 1 year deal wherein Fox Soccer Channel will broadcast 9 games- 6 regular season games and all 3 playoff games (2 semifinals and the championship). At least that's how other people are portraying it. Here is the official announcement from the NWSL website.

NWSL, FSMG ANNOUNCE NATIONAL TV AGREEMENT
FSMG will air six regular-season matches and all three playoff matches
CHICAGO (April 18, 2013) - The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) and FOX Sports Media Group (FSMG) announced today a one-year agreement to televise nine games this year, the NWSL’s inaugural season. As part of the agreement, FSMG will air six regular-season matches and all three playoff matches, which include the two semifinal games on August 24 and 25, and the championship game on August 31.

"We are very pleased to announce this media agreement with FSMG," said NWSL Executive Director Cheryl Bailey. "The opportunity to highlight the race for the playoffs and the three biggest games of the season that will decide the first league champion on national television is important for the growth of the league. Our fans will get the chance to see the high caliber of women’s soccer, and we also hope to create many new fans who will appreciate the amazing athletes and personalities in the league."

Beginning July 8, FOX Soccer will televise one game per week over the final six weeks of the season, leading up to the NWSL Playoffs. The schedule will be unveiled in the coming weeks.

"The agreement with the NWSL showcases our support of women’s soccer and the growing popularity it’s experiencing in the country," said David Nathanson, General Manager of FOX Soccer. "We are excited to be the network home for the sport’s top level players, many of whom will be featured on FOX Sports at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup."

The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) is an eight-team Division-I women’s professional soccer league featuring players from Canada, Mexico and U.S. The founding clubs are the Boston Breakers, Chicago Red Stars, FC Kansas City, Portland Thorns FC, Seattle Reign FC, Sky Blue FC, the Washington Spirit and the Western New York Flash. Based in Chicago, the NWSL is supported by the United States Soccer Federation, Canadian Soccer Association and Federation of Mexican Football.

FOX Soccer, part of the FOX Sports Media Group, offers the most comprehensive multi-media coverage of world-class soccer available in the United States. Encompassing FOX Soccer, FOX Soccer Plus, FOXSoccer.com and FOX Soccer 2Go, the network serves as the primary television, online, and mobile smart phone and tablet destination in the U.S. for elite competitions including England’s Barclays Premier League and FA Cup, UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, the Scottish Premier League, and the Australian Hyundai A-League in addition to such prestigious tournaments as the CONCACAF Champions League and CONCACAF Gold Cup, as well as the future home of the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Flagship FOX Soccer is Nielsen-rated and available to service providers in High-Definition, reaching over 50 million cable and satellite households nationwide.

FOX Soccer Plus is a premium network providing the core fan with even more international and domestic high-level sports competitions in HD. In addition to live, exclusive soccer matches from the best leagues in the world, FOX Soccer Plus delivers premium rugby from the RaboDirect PRO 12 League, Aviva Premiership and Heineken Cup, among other competitions. Additionally, FOX Soccer Plus carries the world’s top rugby league competitions, including Australia’s National Rugby League and State of Origin Series, along with Europe’s Stobart Super League and Carnegie Challenge Cup. FOX Soccer Plus is also home to rugby league’s World Club Challenge and the Australian Football League. Live match coverage is available for fans on-the-go via premium broadband service FOX Soccer 2Go, online and via mobile and tablet applications. For more information - as well as news, features, analysis stats and more - visit one of America’s most-visited online soccer destinations at FOXSoccer.com, and the network’s Facebook page and Twitter feed (@FOXSoccer).

Basically this will be the last big soccer event Fox Soccer holds, though I expect Fox Sports 1 to snag the playoffs. The press release clearly states that Fox Sports Media Groups has agreed to air 9 games and that the 6 regular season games will air on Fox Soccer. If the NWSL decides to reup with Fox sports, it'd only make sense that they want their playoffs on the national sports channel- Fox Sports 1, and not the dying Fox Soccer. I guess we'll all see how it unfolds when they announce the schedule in the upcoming weeks.

Before we can turn our attention t that though, we must get through the conference semi's and championships. Here is all the information you need to know for this weeks conference tourneys. If I am unable to list them, please check out Awful Announcing or Sports Media Journal, and they will provide the information.

Awful Announcing has compiled a list of all the possible announcers for each teams TV and radio broadcast. Why mess with perfection. If you wish to learn the possible announcers for each network, please visit the MLB TV Primer: Local Announcers provided by our friends at Awful Announcing.
