Top Observation: ESPN's Rene Ingoglia sharing that while you can practice against the defense with a tempo offense, it's not adequate to prepare you for Jacksonville State's pace of play because Jacksonville State always runs it faster.

Top observation: ESPN's Rene Ingoglia sharing the disadvantage of high-tempo offense is if you suffer a 3 and out series, it typically puts your defense back on the field within a minutes time and risks tiring them out much faster.

Top Call: ESPN Rene Ingoglia saying the pooch punt that only netted JSU 6 yds was poetic justice because the Gamecocks up-tempo offense prevented a review 2 plays earlier on an obvious fumble, but the punt return went to about the same spot as the fumble recovery should have been.

Oops Award: CBS Sports Jordan Kent called the FIU Panthers FYU. FYU is the abbreviation for Fort Yukon Airport, not Florida International University.

Top Observation: CBS Sports Donte Whitner sharing one of the reasons QB's are told not to throw across themselves is because it throws them off balance.

Top Observation: CBS Sports Donte Whitner sharing one of the reasons a scrambling QB gains yardage on most carries is because their cuts throw the defense off balance because they have to go from quick blocks to quick coverage, and their momentum causes them to stumble.

Top Observation: CBS Sports Donte Whitner sharing the biggest reason most offenses get big pays is because defenses over adjust and forget to communicate with each other, leaving holes that shouldn't be present.

Top Stat: CBS Sports Jordan Kent sharing New Mexico State averages 18 yards per completion in 2023, 3rd in the FBS.

Funniest exchange: CBS Sports Jordan Kent:, “This is why you wear all-white shoes. You don't want the sideline to make it easy to see where you step out."

Donte Whitner retorts, “Yes, yes, it is."
Kent quips,  “At my college they only taught you how to shimmy. There was no shake."

Top observation: CBS Sports Donte Whitner pointing out that success in the redzone always starts because you get a surge at the offensive line allowing your RB to go through lanes or your QB to have time.

Top analysis: CBS Sports Donte Whitner points out the key to a successful vertical passing game comes because the offensive line establishes protection rather than collapsing.

Best line: ESPN’s Dusty Dvoracek, on a QB sneak into the end zone, “This is the most en vogue thing across College and NFL Football. You get a tight end, running back close on a QB sneak and shove from behind. You call it a rush push and as a defender how about a weak snake.”

Say what: CBS Sports Randy Cross called for North Texas to go for it on a 4th and 4 from their own 30 even though they were up 3-0 and the UNT defense had only given up 47 yards to Navy on their first 2 drives.

Top stat: CBS Sports John Sadak sharing that North Texas going from 0-2 to 2-2 occurred because QB Chandler Rogers had learned to protect the ball and had 0 turnovers. Today though: -1.

Top Stat: CBS Sports John Sadak telling viewers North Texas QB Chandler Rogers had only 106 yds rushing through 3 games. Today he got 75 on a TD run. However going into that run Rogers had 9 carries for -1 yards, meaning he only has added 74 today.

Best exchange: CBS Sports Brad Nessler, “Why is Alabama passing?” Danielson responds, “He just lost track of the Down.” Nessler retorts. “Well, If he lost track then the Offensive Coordinator did too.” The time left in the game was 1:36 w/ Alabama leading 26-20 and Texas A&M w/ no timeouts.

Best line: ESPN’s Sean McDonough telling viewers during Kentucky/Georgia, “These officials are very conversational in the 1st Quarter.”

Top analysis: ESPN's Greg McElroy sharing that it's a bad move to egg on a corner end, because the corner end retaliates at the least expected moment and wins 95% of the time.

The candor of ESPN’s Sean McDonough adds so much more to a telecast. His brutal honest thoughts are refreshing. Tonight, on unnecessary roughness call on Kentucky’s Barton, he called it a “WWE elbow drop by Barton.”

Johnny Miller is proud of the weekly candor by McDonough.

Top analysis: Fox Sports Spencer Tillman, on a Wyoming incompletion, it’s a 3/4 field throw it’s thrown in a tight radius of only 14 degrees. WR’s have to make those catches.

Great to hear Fox Sports Charlie Taft getting a special shoutout from Tim Brando for his creative work on tonight’s game.

Top Analysis: NFL Network's Kurt Warner sharing the key to start most offenses is to come out with easy passes because they're usually positive and allow your team to develop early tempo.

Top Stat: NFL Network's Rich Eisen sharing that Buffalo only had 4 3 and out series all year coming into this game, but Jacksonville has been even more successful: forcing 5 3 and outs on the opening series this year.

Worst Timing Award: NFL Network's Rich Eisen predicting that a flag would be holding on the offense and force the Jags out of the redzone only for it to be a defensive illegal hands to the face giving the Jags 1st and Goal.

Oops Award: After Jacksonville got the opening touchdown NFL Network's Rich Eisen declared, "It's 7-0 Jacksonville early on. Oops. Make that 8-0. That was a 2 point conversion."

Top Analysis: NFL Network's Kurt Warner sharing that Jacksonville's Achilles heel is their run game. It continues to force them into field goal attempts and keep their opponents in close games.

Top Stat: NFL Network's Rich Eisen sharing that today vs. Jacksonville is the first scoreless 1st Quarter for Buffalo in the 2023 season.

Top Analysis: NFL Network's Rich Eisen sharing one of the keys to Jacksonville's offense is distribution to everyone. It's only the second quarter, and already 6 different receivers have caught a pass.

Top Analysis: NFL Network's Rich Eisen sharing that Jacksonville spent all week in London after playing at Wembley last week, whereas Buffalo barely came on Friday. He then stated it's apparent in the play because Jacksonville looks well adjusted while Buffalo looks jetlagged.

Top Analysis: NFL Network's Kurt Warner sharing that one of the keys to Jacksonville's WR corp is they compliment each other. They push each other too the limit and don't break into each other's roles.

Funniest line: NFL Network's Rich Eisen,
"Next week we deliver a London encore when the Baltimore Ravens play the Tennessee Titans who will double the number of kings in this country. The royal Derrick Henry will be ready to run over everything."

Top Stat: Fox Sports Brandon Gaudin sharing that the Texans have made 4 FG's today vs. Atlanta for the first time since the 2021 season.

Top Analysis: Fox Sports Mark Schlereth sharing the key to any QB's success is to learn the timing of the WR routes so you know when to release the ball accurately rather than having a turnover cone because you follow them the entire play.

Top Analysis: Fox Sports Mark Schlereth sharing the hardest thing for most young QB's is being unselfish. A lot of them will try and force a pass in to gain numbers, but being successful means you recognize when you should throw it away.

Top Analysis: CBS Sports Adam Archuleta sharing the advantage to Gardner Minshew at Colts QB is that he rarely has a negative play. He may only accumulate 1 or 2 yards at a time, but he's always moving the ball forward and giving you a chance to win.

Top Analysis: CBS Sports Spero Dedes sharing that even though it may be limited, a back-up QB has to get snaps in the offense every week so they can remain sharp should they be needed in an actual game situation.

Top Analysis: Fox Sports Daryl Johnston sharing that when you trade up to the #1 QB, you are outlining what your teams future is. You're going in with an attitude of you don't care what happens in one season. You are looking at future seasons where chemistry has developed.

Top Analysis: Fox Sports Daryl Johnston sharing that the key to most offensive passing games is spreading out the WR's where the backfield can get confused when they all cut across. It often leads to big plays or touchdowns.

Top Stat: CBS Sports Kevin Harlan sharing the last time the Patriots were shut out was back in 1970 when they were known as the Boston Patriots. CBS Stats then shared that the worst home shutout came a year earlier than that, in 1969.

Top reference: CBS Sports Kevin Harlan, “Trent and I are from Kansas City, and I’ve about had it with all this Taylor Swift info.” Trent Green then cut in, “It is proving an advantage though. When they go to press conferences they don’t have to give game info. Instead they have to answer questions on Swift.”

Top Analysis: CBS Sports Trent Green sharing that when a NFL team struggles, a lot of coaches look toward Australian Rules Football players. They aren’t all kickers, but a lot of them come into the league and become position specialists because of the familiarity.

Top Analysis: CBS Sports Charles Davis sharing that not all challenges occur because a play will be overturned. Some challenges occur because you’re hoping to give your team more momentum or stop the opponents momentum.

Top Analysis: CBS Sports Charles Davis sharing you don’t always call out a player for mistakes. Instead you focus on the obvious things like asking, “How did you not make that catch,” and then leave it at that. Move on to other areas.

Top Stat: CBS Sports Ian Eagle pointing out that the Ravens offense was giving them a chance to win because they had 0 penalties through 3 quarters. In the fourth 2 penalties and fumbles caused it to go from a 10-7 lead to a 17-10 deficit.

Top Analysis: Fox Sports Mark Sanchez sharing that the key for a QB to complete passes when they’ve lost their top WR is to distribute the ball to multiple players rather than focus on one and then hope that one emerges as the top candidate.

Worst Timing Aware: Fox Sports Kevin Kugler sharing that the Cincinnati Bengals have 0 offensive TD’s in the 1st Half of 2023. The Bengals had 1st and Goal from the 6 and took 3 players, but a 3-yd TD pass to Ja’Marr Chase (Chase’s first NFL TD) gave the Bengals a 6-0 lead.

Top Analysis: Fox Sports Mark Sanchez sharing that Joe Burrow’s success in a game is very dependent of his pregame warmup. Even when dealing with an injury he has his success dependent on his ability to move out of the pocket and find receivers rather than take the sack under pressure.

Top Analysis: Fox Sports Mark Sanchez sharing that equal distribution and giving the illusion of remaining true to the run are both key factors to progressing the ball into the redzone and giving your team their best chance to score.

Top Stat: Fox Sports Kevin Kugler sharing that Cincinnati’s 10-0 lead against Arizona matches the teams largest lead of 2023.

Top Stat: Fox Sports Kevin Kugler sharing that the Cardinals two 3-and-outs to start the game were the first two 3-and-outs the Cincinnati defense has forced this season.

Top Stat: CBS Sports Andrew Catalon sharing that the NY Jets have forced safeties in back-to-back weeks.

Top Stat: CBS Sports Andrew Catalon sharing Russell Wilson’s 21 yd run to end the 1st was more rushing yds than the NY Jets total yds (20). It was also his first 20+ yd rush in the last 121 attempts.

Top Analysis: CBS Sports Matt Ryan sharing that one of the biggest areas Zach Wilson has improved in this season is that he has started looking for running lanes so that he is making positive yards rather than being nailed in the backfield for a loss.

Top Reporting: CBS Sports Andrew Catalon sharing that a lot of Robert Saleh’s quotes that have been criticized came because Saleh would wake up at 3 AM and ask himself why he was doing certain jobs. Those answers were the first thing that came to mind during interviews, and they were almost always the wrong thing to say.

Top information: CBS Sports Matt Ryan sharing that Denver QB Russell Wilson lost 15 pounds during the offseason, and the weight loss appears to have given him his speed back when he has to scramble.

Top Analysis: CBS Sports Tiki Barber sharing one of the reasons the Jets are forcing field goals rather than giving up TD’s is because Sauce Gardner stays inside the zone instead of going out to cover a fake receiver route, thereby allowing him to come over and make the tackle instead of allowing the TD.

Top Stat: CBS Sports Matt Ryan sharing that in 2023, NFL teams that have scored a TD inside 2 minutes in the first half are 21-9.

Top information: CBS Sports Tiki Barber sharing that inside 2 minutes Zach Wilson is more precise as a thrower and knows when to scramble because he’s not thinking of anything except progress the ball. He’s not worried about potential turnovers.

Top Analysis: Fox Sports Jonathan Vilma sharing that when he played the quickest way to be benched by Sean Payton was to not protect the ball unless you were Drew Brees.

Top Analysis: Fox Sports Jonathan Vilma sharing that the mistakes that lead to offsides and too many men on the field occur because a team is not concentrating. Instead they are getting comfortable and sloppy and think things should automatically go their way.

Funniest line: Fox Sports Kenny Albert, after a challenge reversed a 12 men on the field penalty, “The only thing missing is Bill Cower shoving a polaroid into the shirt pocket of referee Gordon McCarter. That actually happened back in 1995.” Vilma then quipped, “That’s adding insult to injury. This is how blind you are. Take this photo and keep it.”

Top Analysis: Fox Sports Kevin Burkhardt sharing that when you have too many superstars, like the Eagles, it’s not unusual to forget that you have other players who need to take turns. You’re truly forced to pick your poison for any given week.

Funniest line: After Philadelphia pounded a run right up the middle on 3rd and 1, “I think that’s the brotherly shove.” Greg Olsen, “Yes, it’s the brotherly shove, but some call it the brotherly butt since you knock someone onto his back.” Burkhardt, “This time it was the official that ended up the butt of the joke.”

Top Call: Fox Sports Kevin Burkhardt, “It’s A.J. Brown. He turns around, and it’s another move for the teams top two. Onto another 1st.”

Top Analysis: Fox Sports Greg Olsen sharing that when you get a lone safety covering the deep ball, it is impossible to stop the Eagles offense when they have 3 different receivers with more than 100 yards receiving this season.

Best Timing Award: Fox Sports Kevin Burkhardt sharing that Philadelphia is 11/14 on 3rd Down conversions right before Swift scrambled for 17 yards on a 3rd and 5 making them 12/15.

Top Analysis: CBS Sports Tony Romo sharing that unless you sneak regularly like Kansas City, it’s always a risk to do a QB sneak because the other team takes the opportunity to target the QB and get free hits in however they can.

Top Analysis: CBS Sports Tony Romo sharing that Kansas City’s defensive experience pays off dividends this season because they know when to apply the QB pressure and when to back off into coverage, making them very inconsistent to predict.

Top Stat: CBS Sports Jim Nantz sharing that Minnesota QB Kirk Cousins is the first Vikings QB ever to pass for at least 2 TD’s in each of the first 5 games.

Top Analysis: CBS Sports Tony Romo sharing that the first thing the defense does each week isn’t review film footage of their next opponent. Instead they meet together and discuss the best way to defend the stars known on the upcoming opponent.

Best timing award: CBS Sports Tony Romo asking if you trust the run on 3rd and 3 if you’re Kansas City, because he wouldn’t trust the run when he sees them lining up a run coverage defense all up the middle.

Top Analysis: CBS Sports Tony Romo sharing that the key to a good defense is to make your coverage look muddy, meaning it looks like one formation and turns into a completely different one upon the snap.

Top Stat: CBS Sports Andrew Catalon sharing the NY Jets have scored on 4 straight possessions, and that possession with 4 minutes left isn’t necessarily to score. It’s too drive as much time as possible off of the clock.

Top Analysis: CBS Sports Tiki Barber sharing if you’re in a 3rd and short situation, your main goal isn’t to run a surprise play. Instead you run a play you’re familiar with so you have your most potential success, even if it’s a play that didn’t work earlier in the game.

Top Analysis: CBS Sports Matt Ryan sharing that in a 3rd and 5 when you’re in FG range, the safest pass to make sometimes isn’t a quick slant where defensive coverage will be heavy. Instead you sometimes go for the jugular by passing to the endzone where coverage will be 1-on-1.

Top Stat: CBS Sports Andrew Catalon sharing that between the NY Jets and Denver they’ve had 8 combined fumbles compared to 7 combined 3rd Down conversions.

Top call: Fox Sports Kevin Kugler, as Bengals QB Joe Burrow connects with WR Ja'Marr Chase on a 3-yard TD pass, "It's Chase again! His third touchdown catch of the day, and he sets a new Cincinnati single-game record with his 14th catch, giving the Bengals a 30-20 lead."
