NFL News and Notes and Broadcast Assignments by Rudy Martzke (Nov 13, 2022 edition)

Best interview: NFL Network's Jamie Erdahl said that Pete Carroll stated one of the reasons they let Russell Wilson go in the off-season was because they felt he had too much dominant leadership, and they needed to let some of their younger players develop key leadership.

Best line: NFL Network’s Rich Eisen, after a a 72 yard Seahawks punt by Michael Dickson, “That’s for you McAfee!  All the way from Germany. I don’t know how to say punters are people in German but go ahead and Google it.”

Best graphic: The production team in Germany showed the teams names, TD, Goat (Tom Brady picture) and the German word for each.

Best line: Fox Sports Jimmy Johnson, “Growing up in the coaching profession I’ve always had great admiration for Tom Landry   I can say this he was first class to me and after I became Head Coach of the Dallas Cowboys.”

Best graphics illustrate complete dominance: At the end of the 1st Quarter, CBS displayed total yardage with the NY Giants having 113 yards compared to Houston's -2.

Best interview: CBS Sports Evan Washburn shared that NY Giants RB Saquon Barkley spends half his preparation time visualizing how to avoid and forced missed tackles because he knows he's one of the main targets teams plan for.

Biggest Understatement: Fox Sports Kevin Kugler, after a PI call was made, "Usually when you see the name on the backside of a jersey disappear, it's not a good sign."

Best foresight: Fox Sports Mark Sanchez said the main reason for wanting to gain 7-9 yards on a 1st Down is because it opens up the entire playbook on 2nd down while keeping a short run on the table for 3rd Down.

Best comment: Fox Sports Mark Sanchez said the main thing that's difficult for young NFL players is to learn to stop shooting yourself in the foot. You have to start with a few basics and build upon them rather than trying to learn everything all at once.

Keys to success: Fox Sports Mark Sanchez said one of the things that has caused the Bears offense to start having some success has been Justin Fields learning when to scramble in the NFL. It has allowed him to have 7 TD's and 0 interceptions over the last 2 games.

Best stat: CBS Sports Andrew Catalon shared that Tennessee WR Nick Westbrook-Ikhine was the first 100-yard receiver for the Titans this season and that it broke a 10 game streak with the Titans having no 100-yard receiver.

Best stat: CBS Sports Andrew Catalon shared that the Tennessee Titans have matched their season high of 6 series of 3 and out with a whole quarter remaining vs. Denver.

Best stat: Fox Sports' Kevin Burkhardt reveals that today vs. Green Bay is CeeDee Lamb's first 100-yard game of the season.

Funniest line: CBS Sports Greg Gumbel, after sideline reporter AJ Ross notes that it's about 25 degrees cooler on the Dolphins' side of Miami's Hard Rock Stadium than it is for the visiting Browns due to shade: "We might as well get AJ a Miami uniform; she's not moving from this sideline."

Funniest exchange: Greg Gumbel and Adam Archuleta on CBS as a possible (but uncalled) pass interference is replayed in Dolphins/Browns game. Archuleta: "It certainly looked like it in real time." Gumbel, “I know what? It looked like it in slow motion, too."

Best interview: NBC Sports Melissa Stark interviewed Cheryl Bosa who sewed her sons jerseys together for the 49ers/Chargers match since one plays on each team. She wouldn't have been cheering for either team had both boys been playing, but since one is injured she's leaning towards the one playing: the 49ers.

Bad Breaks: NBC Sports McAulay criticized the officials on Chargers/49ers for not using replay to confirm that a 49ers defenders toe hit the goal line on a punt, which should have resulted in a touchback. Instead they placed the ball at the 1 and gave the Chargers 99 yards to go instead of 75.
