Thursday, February 2 at 10 AM EST the NWSL and A+E Networks will announce the 2017 NWSL television deal. The announcement will be streamed live on the NWSL's YouTube and Facebook pages.
The new television deal will place most, if not all, of the NWSL games on national tv. Local talent will still be used to provide the commentary and videos.
It is currently unclear on whether or not Fox or ESPN could still come into play at the end of the season, but that information is expected to be announced as well. Also unclear is whether or not YouTube will still be used to archive games or possibly show the games outside the states. It should be noted though that A+E Networks also has an international division that could end up carrying the league.
A+E Networks consists of 11 stations- the main ones being A&E, Lifetime, and History. Others include fyi,; Military History; Criminal Investigation; LMN; LRW (Lifetime Real Women); Viceland; History en Espanyol, and Blaze.
The NWSL is the top tier of women's soccer in the US and most of the world. This is the leagues fifth season of play. 10 teams participate: Boston Breakers, Chicago Red Stars, FC Kansas City, Houston Dash, North Carolina Courage, Orlando Pride, Portland Thorns FC, Seattle Reign FC, Sky Blue FC, and Washington Spirit. The defending champs are the North Carolina Courage, formerly known as the Western New York Flash.
The weekly NWSL schedule will be posted here on Eye on Sky and Air Sports along with the station(s) airing the match and which commentators are calling each match when the regular season begins play.
