IndyCar revs up NBCSN's weekend coverage of Motorsports

AMA Racing and IndyCar Racing highlight NBCSN's weekend coverage of Motorsports. NBCSN will air the qualifying leg and the race live. They'll also air ARCA Racing tape delayed Thursday Night. Below's the press release from NBC Sports Group.

Live Race Coverage Begins on NBC Sports Network
on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET
IndyCar Series Driver Ryan Briscoe to Serve as Guest Analyst This Week
STAMFORD, Conn. – July 31, 2013 – NBC and NBC Sports Network’s 15 hours of motorsports coverage this weekend will be highlighted by the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio on NBC Sports Network this Sunday at 3 p.m. ET, with current IZOD IndyCar Series driver Ryan Briscoe joining the live telecast as a guest analyst.
Two-time IZOD IndyCar Series Champion and 2008 Indy 500 winner Scott Dixon of Target Chip Ganassi Racing looks to build off of his sweep of the Honda Indy Toronto doubleheader on July 13-14. Dixon took the checkered flag at Mid-Ohio last year, and sits second in the IZOD IndyCar Series points standings behind three-time Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves of Team Penske.
Coverage of the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio begins with qualifying on NBCSN on Saturday at 5 p.m. ET. Coverage of Indy Lights Mid-Ohio, IndyCar’s developmental series, will air on NBCSN Sunday at 2 p.m. ET.
NBC Sports Live Extra will also provide live streaming coverage of the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio this Sunday at 3 p.m. ET. Coverage will be streamed via “TV Everywhere,” the media industry’s effort to make quality content available to authenticated customers both in and out of the home and on multiple platforms.
NBCSN motorsports coverage will also include live coverage of Auctions America from its California Auction, highlighted by a special appearance from Jay Leno, well-known car collector and host of NBC’s The Tonight Show. Live coverage on NBCSN begins on Friday at 7 p.m. ET and Saturday at 1 p.m. ET.
In addition to IndyCar and Auctions America, coverage of the 2013 Red Bull AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship at Loretta Lynn’s will air on NBC on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET. ARCA Racing from Winchester Speedway in Virginia kicks off this weekend’s motorsports coverage on NBCSN on Thursday at 11 p.m. ET.

COMMENTATORS: NBC Sports Group’s IndyCar and Formula One play-by-play voice Leigh Diffeywill be joined in the booth this week by current IZOD IndyCar Series driver Ryan Briscoe and former driver Townsend Bell. Briscoe won at Mid-Ohio in 2008, and is nursing a wrist injury suffered at the Honda Indy Toronto race in July. Bell is a two-time Indy Lights Mid-Ohio winner and held off Dixon at Mid-Ohio to take the checkered flag in 2000.
Briscoe on serving as guest analyst for NBCSN telecast: “Leigh Diffey and Townsend Bell have been doing an awesome job this year with the IndyCar broadcasts. I’m really excited to work with them, and I think it will be exciting for the fans to get the perspective of one of the current drivers in the sport.”
Briscoe on his experience racing on the Mid-Ohio circuit: “Mid-Ohio is a great track and one of my favorites. It’s a very smooth circuit with interesting elevation changes and incredibly fast corners. It’s a really exciting to track to drive. Qualifying times were very close last year, so it’s going to be very competitive during qualifying.”
Briscoe on Scott Dixon’s success at Mid-Ohio: “Scott Dixon is always the favorite here. If he doesn’t win it, it seems he comes second or third every single year. He is certainly very comfortable at this track.”
Reporters Jon BeekhuisKevin LeeMarty Snider and Robin Miller will manage the pits. Mike KingDavey Hamilton and Jake Query will have the call of the Indy Lights Mid-Ohio race.
Veteran broadcaster Bill Patrick will work alongside Leno to lead NBCSN’s live coverage of Auctions America this weekend, and will be joined by NBCSN F1 analyst and former race mechanic for the Benneton F1 team Steve Matchett, and reporter Camile Ford.
Jason WeigandtJeff Emig and Kelli Stavast will provide coverage of the 2013 Red Bull AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship from the legendary Loretta Lynn Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tenn.
Rick Benjamin and Jim Tretow have the call of the Herr’s Chase The Taste 200 from Winchester Speedway on Thursday.
FIRESTONE INDY LIGHTS: NBC Sports Network will air a total of 12 one-hour telecasts of Firestone Indy Lights continuing with the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio. Firestone Indy Lights is the premier ladder series for drivers and teams striving to compete in the IZOD IndyCar Series and the Indianapolis 500. Primarily run in conjunction with the IZOD IndyCar Series, the Firestone Indy Lights schedule features races on road courses/street circuits and ovals, including the famed 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
