Top info: ESPN’s rules analyst John Parry, during Missouri/Georgia, noted even though Missouri recovered an on-side kick that there was an illegal block before the ball went 10 yards and it would be Georgia’s ball due to the illegal block.  Greg McElroy was impressive knowing the rule and telling viewers immediately before they deferred to Parry. 

Hustle Award: Fox Sports Dan Hellie will be busy over the next few days. Saturday, he started his morning  in New York City for UCF weigh in. Hellie then flew to Los Angeles. Sunday, he will host DirecTV’s Fantasy Zone for 7 straight hours. Tuesday Hellie will be on the call for Mississippi Valley State/St. Johns’s Men’s Basketball. Next Saturday he will call 2 games for Fox Sports. He will call Penn State/Maryland and then San Diego State/Hawaii. 

Strongest comment: ESPN’s Todd Blackledge had strong opinions on a 2 point conversion by UNC that the center was called for holding. “That is chintzy. He submarined into to the center.” McDonough chimes in, “That’s terrible.” 

Around the Dial: Fox Sports will have rising star John Fanta, analyst Monika Moore, and sideline reporter Mike Schmaltz on the call for the Big East’s Women’s Soccer Championship Game between Georgetown and St. John’s. The game is Sunday at 1:30pm ET. on FS1. 

ESPN will have the dynamic duo of Marc Kestecher and the strong Bob Valvano on the Champions Classic doubleheader call Tuesday for Kansas/Michigan State and Kentucky/Duke. 

Top info: Joe Tessitore told viewers that Michigan State’s Mel Tucker has 42 new players on the team this year. 

Best prediction: ESPN’s Greg McElroy predicted Michigan State will lose to Purdue. “I think it’s hangover city.” 

Top analysis: ESPN’s Greg Elroy had thoughts on how to defeat Georgia. “The way to beat them is down the field. At this point and at times you can see it. South Carolina and a couple other games where there were some guys open downfield for some big plays in the passing game.” 

Too production: ESPN’s use of Skycam during Georgia/Missouri gave viewers a unique up and close shot of a Georgia blocked punt. It was tremendous innovation for viewers to enjoy from a different perspective. 

Best line: ESPN’s Sean McDonough declared in a wild thrilling 51-48 game between Wake Forest/UNC on a stop on 4th Down with 1:22 left in the game. “This game is far from over. Wake Forest still has 3 timeouts left.” McDonough was correct indeed. UNC and Wake Forest both scored TD’s before UNC sealed the victory with a 58-55. 

Best line: ESPN’s Sean McDonough, “Perfect season is out the window for Wake Forest.”  

Top observation: Fox Sports Tim Brando pointed out that a potential targeting review during TCU/Baylor was all over because the teams own player helped push a player into him. 

Top analysis: Fox Sports Mike Pereria noted that targeting is put into two categories, a runner or defenseless player. 

Best line: Fox Sports Spencer Tillman, “When another player is pushing you, it could color the action taking place.” 

Funniest line: CBS Sports Brad Nessler, on the low scoring 3-3 tie between Auburn and Texas A&M, “We might need to call in the FBI to come investigate the offenses of these two teams.” 

Top analysis: Fox Sports Petros Papadakis noted that with Penn State averaging only 3.2 yards a run, “You can get stagnant with that group especially if you have a great Quarterback and a lot of perimeter play. It’s something you really have to play attention to.“ 

Best stat: Fox Sports Petros Papadakis noted Maryland had 7 sacks last season against Penn State, including 9 tackles for loss. 

Top info: Fox Sports Dan Hellie told viewers that Demeioun Robinson is nicknamed “Chop” because as a baby he weighed 10 pounds and looked like a pork chop. 

Top observation: Fox Sports Tim Brando, on Baylor, “This could be a trap game for them. They have Oklahoma next week. This could be the game that you get caught against an emotional team that’s gone through a lot while you are thinking about your next opponent.” 

Funniest comment: While CBS Sports Adam Zucker was owing an update between Purdue/Michigan State as Purdue QB Adrian O’Connel threw a TD, “Is that Gary Danielson?”  

Top info: Fox Sports Petros Papadakis pointed out the reputation that Maryland Head Coach Mike Locksley is known for recruiting, and so is his assistant Head Coach Ron Zook. 

Best stat: Fox Sports Dan Hellie notied that Maryland is trying to beat Penn State at home for the first time since 1961. 

Fox Sports Tim Brando noted with Big Noon Kickoff on the road this year he hasn’t been able to use “How do you do?” as often. 

Best line: Fox Sports Tim Brando, “I can’t come into this building without thinking about Gary Patterson Going back to ‘14 when Baylor and TCU were both when you think about it jobbed by the College Football Playoff Committee. Those 2 teams either one of them could have easily been it. It was Jerry Kill’s Minnesota team that came in the 3rd Week of the  season that really propped up that TCU team that won 9 games that season. 

Top nugget Fox Sports Tim Brando noted that the third week of the season in 2014 was the debut of Brady Quinn on television. That was the only season Brando and Tillman haven’t been together. 

Strongest comment: Fox Sports Petros Papadakis, on Penn State, “If they could run a little bit more this defense would be featured as one of the greats in the country this year.” 

Funniest line: CBS Sports Brad Nessler, after the a second FG was missed, “Will we ever get off a. 3-3 tie?  You will want to hang around and we will find out together.” 

Top info: CBS Sports Gary Danielson  immediately, after Texas A&M QB Zach Calzada was hit in the shoulder, telling viewers that the backup QB is a walk-on. 

Top reporting: CBS Sports Jamie Erdahl immediately noting to viewers that Texas A&M QB Zach Calzada had no control of his left arm after taking a shot to his left shoulder 

Best line: CBS Sports rules analyst Gene Steretore, on Auburn WR trying to sell that he caught the pass during a replay, “I can say this from my days from when I was refereeing, when players start to try and sell the fact they made a catch like that gave us an indication that maybe we needed to look at it.  

Best line: Fox Sports Spencer Tillman, on TCU, “I’m impressed overall with the continuity of the Horned Frogs given the week they had really speaks to the character and that competitive maturity that is was prior to this game.” 

Best line: Fox Sports Tim Brando, as production caught a shot of players carrying Gatorade to pour on TCU’s Jerry Kill, “They can’t get to him because Jerry is too moxie. They got the wrong person.”  

Around the Dial: BTN will have Kevin Kugler and Robbie Hummel on the call Tuesday for Jackson State/Illinois. 

Around the Dial: BTN will have Brandon Gaudin and Shon Morris on the call Tuesday for Eastern Michigan/Indiana. 

Around the Dial: Fox Sports will have Aaron Goldsmith and Bill Raftery on the call Tuesday for Mt. Saint Mary’s/Villanova. 

Say what?: ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit, with LSU leading Alabama 7-0 with over 10 minutes to go in the 2nd Quarter, “If Alabama comes back and wins this game it’s because of this Will Anderson play.”  

Strongest comment: ESPN’s Jesse Palmer, on a close  play in the end zone where a near TD by Tulsa was ruled a fumble for a Cincinnati win, “If Cincinnati makes it into the College Football Playoff. That goal line stand is something we will be talking about. 

Worst moment: ESPN’s Chris Fowler didn’t acknowledge the Alabama missed PAT almost a full 20 seconds later. 

Best moment: Compass Media’s TJ Rives immediately told listeners that the missed PAT was the first of the year by Will Reichard. He was 49 for 49 this season. 

Best line: SEC Network’s Matt Stinchcomb, on South Carolina clobbering Florida 40-17, “South Carolina has played their best game of the year with their third Quarterback of the season.”

Strongest comment: Compass Media’s TJ Rives, on LSU going for it on 4th Down in a 20-14 game, “This call is going to be highly questioned. Sometimes Ed Orgeron makes decisions like Luke Skywalker with his eyes closed battling the Death Star.” 

Hustle Award: Broadcaster Eli Gold called the first ever Birmingham Squadron WABM tv broadcast last night against the Greensboro Swarm. He had a quick turnaround and followed that up by calling the primetime Alabama Crimson Radio Network game against LSU.
