Most of the junior college tournaments are produced and streamed by PSB Live, so NBC is making no small effort in publicizing their newest acquisition. This year the 2013 NJCAA Division 3 Baseball Championships are once again taking place at Tyler Junior College. Comcast Houston is seizing this opportunity to try an emphasize they are more than a regional network by airing the 2013 NJCAA Championship game on CSN Houston+, regardless of whether or not Brookhaven is left in the tournament at that time. Frankly if it were me, I would make it available to all Comcast Networks to air on their plus affiliates, or in the case of the Philadelphia area place it on Comcast network, but this press release only mentions the Houston stations. Here is the full press release.
CSN Plus to Air 2013 NJCAA Division III Baseball World Series Title Game
Top Non-Scholarship Teams from Across the Country Meet in Tyler, TX on May 29 and 30
HOUSTON — Comcast SportsNet Houston (CSN), a partnership between the Houston Astros, Houston Rockets and the NBC Sports Group, today announced that the network will produce and air the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III World Series title game on May 29, and if necessary, the tie-breaker game on May 30. Both games are scheduled to air live on CSN Plus at 7 p.m., with additional re-airings on CSN’s main channel.
The NJCAA has been sponsoring a Division III in baseball since 1993. The Division III is an entirely non-scholarship division of the NJCAA; none of the baseball players receive any scholarship assistance from the institutions they attend. The NJCAA Division III Baseball World Series has been held at Mike Carter Field in Tyler since 2007, and is hosted by Tyler Junior College and Sport Tyler.
A total of eight teams from across the country will play in the double elimination tournament. The group of teams is as follows;
DISTRICT CHAMPIONS/WORLD SERIES QUALIFIERS
District A (Region 3): Niagara County Community College, N.Y. (37-16)
District B (Regions 4, 12): Waubonsee Community College, Ill. (36-22)
District C (Regions 2, 5, 14): Brookhaven College, Texas (31-18)
District D (Region 20): Montgomery College, Md. (40-15)
District E (Region 13): Century College, Minn. (38-11)
District F (Region 15): Nassau Community College, N.Y. (19-16)
District G (Region 19): Gloucester County College, N.J. (45-3)
District H (Region 21): Northern Essex Community College, Mass. (18-14)
Gloucester County College (Sewell, N.J.) will make its 19th appearance in the 22-year history of the event and is ranked first in the Top-10 National Poll after finishing 45-3 this season.
“CSN’s commitment to providing coverage of the most sporting events from around the region continues with the NJCAA Division III World Series,” CSN Director of Programming Janice Schmader said. “The World Series has long been a proving ground for the next crop of Division I and professional prospects, and we are excited to help showcase the skills of these players.”
Lyn Rollins, the voice of LSU baseball, will handle play-by-play duties, joined by former Tyler JC head coach Jonathan Groth as color analyst.
