ESPN High School Kickoff 2013 August 23-25

ESPN will kickoff their High School Football coverage on Friday, August 23. Matches will be shown on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPNews, and ESPN3. A total of 13 matches will be broadcast. Below are the details announced yesterday by ESPN Media Zone. 

26 Teams, 13 Defending State Champions Slated for ESPN High School Kickoff


13 Games in Nine States Across ESPN Networks August 23-25
For the fourth year ESPN will kick off the high school football season with a weekend marathon of the nation’s leading teams and recruits playing live on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNEWS, ESPNU or ESPN3 on August 23-25. Twenty-six teams, 13 of which currently hold state championship titles, will compete in the 13 games scheduled for the 2013 ESPN High School Football Kickoff.

  • 17 of the 26 teams are playing on an ESPN network in the Kickoff for the first time

  • 13 defending state champions will compete in the Kickoff: Apopka (Fla., 8A), Beech (Tenn., 5A), Booker T Washington (Fla., 4A), Ensworth (Tenn., 2A Div. II), Gaffney (S.C., Class AAAA I), Good Counsel (Md., WCAC), Highlands (Ky., 4A), Norcross (Ga., 6A), South Panola (Miss. 6A), Trinity (Ky., 6A), University Christian (Fla., 2A), University School (Fla., 3A) and Valor Christian (Colo., 5A).
  • Three games will feature a matchup of state champions from different states:
    • Ensworth (Tenn., 2A Div. II) vs. Trinity (Ky., 6A)
    • University Christian (Fla., 2A) vs. Highlands (Ky., 4A)
    • Booker T Washington (Fla., 4A) vs. Norcross (Ga., 6A)
  • ESPN will air games from high school fields in nine states: Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee and Utah.
  • Three states – Georgia, Idaho and Utah – will have teams represented in the Kickoff for the first time.
  • 23 players featured are ranked in the ESPN 300; Nine are in the top 150:
