ESPN's coverage of the US Open begins next Tuesday, June 11, and goes through June 17. ESPN acts as the exclusive radio carrier of the US Open and will air coverage on June 13 & 14 from 9 AM- 3 PM and 5 PM- 7 PM. Below is the press release outlining the coverage plans.
ESPN at the 113th U.S. Open
ESPN will surround the 113th U.S. Open at Merion Golf Club near Philadelphia with extensive multiplatform offerings June 11-17. In addition to live action, coverage will include analysis, news and information on television, radio, online and mobile devices.
Eight hours of live play in each of the first two rounds of U.S. golf’s national championship will air each day from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. ET on Thursday and Friday, June 13-14, on ESPN, ESPN3 and WatchESPN. An edited encore presentation from each of the first two rounds will air in prime time on ESPN and WatchESPN at 8 p.m. both nights and edited highlights from Saturday and Sunday’s third and final round action will air on ESPN2 and WatchESPN in the overnight hours after each round.
ESPN Radio will have exclusive live coverage of all four days of tournament play as well as special programming and reports that can be heard on both terrestrial and satellite radio, online at ESPNRadio.com and on mobile devices with the ESPN Radio app.
ESPN’s flagship news and information program, SportsCenter, will originate from the tournament site with special SportsCenter presented by IBM at the U.S. Open programs each day beginning Tuesday, June 11, and will air extensive reports from Merion on the hour throughout each day.
ESPN’s live telecasts on Thursday and Friday and the weekend highlights programs will be hosted by Chris Berman, who is in his 27th year at the U.S. Open for ESPN. Berman will be joined by NBC’s Roger Maltbie in the 18th hole booth to call the play for part of each day.Mike Tirico and analyst Paul Azinger, the 1993 PGA Champion, will share time in the host role and on the 18th hole each day.
ESPN’s U.S. Open team for the Thursday and Friday telecasts also includes two-time U.S. Open champions Curtis Strange (hole announcer) and Andy North (on-course reporter), World Golf Hall of Famer Judy Rankin and two-time major winner Dottie Pepper (on-course reporters). Other hole announcers will be Scott Van Pelt, Terry Gannon and Sean McDonough, while Bill Kratzert also will report from the course. Reporter Tom Rinaldi will conduct player interviews.
ESPN’s telecasts will use Flight Tracker, a live feature that tracks drives from behind and in front of the shot with a virtual line on the screen, allowing viewers to see the flight path of the ball from the time it leaves the tee.
Among features that will be presented during ESPN’s coverage of the U.S. Open are looks at some of the great moments that have occurred at the historic Merion course, including those involving legendary golfers Ben Hogan, Bobby Jones and Lee Trevino.
ESPN, which began televising the first and second rounds of the U.S. Open in 1982, is airing the championship for the 32nd consecutive year. The event has been in the ESPN/ABC family of networks since 1966.
SportsCenter presented by IBM at the U.S. Open
One-hour SportsCenter presented by IBM at the U.S. Open programs air Tuesday and Wednesday, June 11-12, at 2 p.m. on ESPN and Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, June 14-17, at midnight on ESPN2. There also are programs on Saturday and Sunday at 11 a.m., both airing on ESPN. All U.S. Open SportsCenter programs also will stream live on WatchESPN.
Scott Van Pelt and John Anderson will host the programs with analyst Andy North and reporter Tom Rinaldi. Analysts Paul Azinger and David Duval and ESPN.com national columnist Gene Wojciechowski also will contribute to the SportsCenter reports.
Regular editions of SportsCenter will have reports from the U.S. Open hosted by Mike Tiricoon the hour beginning Tuesday of the championship week.
ESPN Radio’s Four-Round U.S. Open Coverage
ESPN Radio is broadcasting live coverage of the U.S. Open Championship, presented in part by American Express and Brut, for the fourth consecutive year. Programming tees off Thursday, June 13, with a one-hour preview special at 1 a.m. ET leading to the network’s 24 live hours of tournament play Thursday-Sunday from Merion Golf Club.
Commentators contributing to ESPN Radio’s live coverage from Merion include: Doug Bell,Bill Kratzert, Dennis Paulson, Bill Rosinski, Curtis Strange and Bob Wischusen. Kevin Winter will host U.S. Open studio programming featuring a preview and recap shows from all four rounds.
ESPN Radio’s U.S. Open coverage will be simulcast on Slacker Radio and Tune-in Radio, as well as on ESPNRadio.com and via the ESPN Radio app on smartphones and tablets. It will also be available on Sirius XM Radio: Rounds 1 and 2 on PGA TOUR Radio (Channel 93), and Rounds 3 and 4 on ESPN Radio (Channel 84).

Internationally, the U.S. Open on ESPN platforms will reach some 122 countries and more than 57 million international households, with coverage in English, Spanish, Portuguese and French language. In Canada, TSN and RDS (in French) will carry all four rounds of the tournament live along with streaming coverage.

ESPN Classic will feature 34 hours of classic U.S. Open golf films leading into live coverage of the first round of the U.S. Open on ESPN. The U.S. Open Golf Tribute begins at midnight on Wednesday, June 12, and runs through Thursday, June 13, at 9 a.m.
ESPN on Demand
Available in more than 43 million households, ESPN on Demand will offer viewers the opportunity to watch some classic U.S. Open tournaments from the past, including Tiger Woods’ victories in 2000, 2002 and 2008, past U.S. Open Championships from Merion, including Lee Trevino’s win in 1971 and David Graham in 1981, the last time the Open was held at the course. Webb Simpson’s win at Olympic last year and Lee Janzen’s 1998 win from the same course also will be revisited.
Interactive Television
The four-screen U.S. Open Mix will air on DirecTV (channels 701-705) for all four days of the championship. Channel 1 will carry the live ESPN or NBC television coverage, while Channels 2 and 3 will cover Featured Groups 1 and 2, respectively (players in both groups to be determined). Channel 4 will cover the 11th and 18th holes.
